17th May 2024

Dear Parents / Carers,

Our Celebration Assembly

Our Stars of the Week are: Ire and Emilly in St Bernadette Class and Chiadikaobi in St Therese Class.

Our awards for St Mary’s Way go to Zara in St Bernadette Class and Evangeline in St Therese Class

Religious Education

We are starting a new topic next week which is called ‘Being Sorry’. The children will be thinking and talking about “What makes a good friend?” We will talk about how friendships can break up and learn about how Jesus helped His friends, who had been arguing, to resolve their differences.

Home learning: Talk to your child and ask them if they can tell you what they look for in a good friend.

             Maths

In Maths next week the children will be consolidating their learning on division by continuing to make equal groups of objects and then writing the matching division number sentence.

Home Learning:  Continue using objects at home, ask your child to share them into equal groups. For example, can they share 4 apples between two people?

English

The children will continue to explore our class text ‘Errol’s Garden’ By Gillian Hibbs. They will be labelling plants, identifying bossy verbs and organising instructions for how to plant a seed.

Home Learning: Ask your child to name the parts of a plant. Can they write a label to name the plant and tell someone a little information about it?

Here is a link to the story, for you to enjoy with your child:

Phonics

This half term the children are recapping sounds in order to consolidate their knowledge preparation for the phonics screening check in June. They are reading ‘alien’ words daily in their phonics sessions as part of this preparation.

Please ensure you are reading daily with your child at home, this is very important and can have a huge impact on the development of your child’s reading.

The reading books are matched to the children’s current phonic knowledge and this allows them to apply the sounds that they are learning to their independent reading.

Home Learning: Please look at the video containing the phase 5 sounds your child should know by now

If you would like your child to practise reading ‘alien’ words at home, please follow this link to a video of the screening check from 2023. The children can read the words shown in the video and it models how to correctly say each sound:
