Dear Parents,

April comes in like a lion and goes out like a lamb,’ goes the old farmers’ saying. This month has been marked by turbulent weather, and we are now looking forward to some more benign days and the opportunity for the children to be outside and using their growing gardens. Our learning is linked to science and geography and now is a rich time of year for observing the seasonal changes.

In our assemblies this week, we have reflected on the Acts of the Apostles, and the rich history of the early Christian Church that is often overlooked because of the understandable focus on the Gospels.

Employment Vacancy

The Trust Governing Board is seeking to appoint a part time teacher for the Junior School from September 2024. Full details are on the schools’ website under the tab ‘Trust Information’ and section ‘Staff Vacancies’.

Lost property

We now have five pairs of reading glasses in the school office for safekeeping. Please check that your child has his or her pair and enquire if you think they might be missing. They are expensive items to lose.

Swim equipment

The issue of correct equipment for swimming has been raised before. All children should have a plastic swim hat to cover hair. These are available to buy in the office for £3. Goggles are also required.

Assemblies and Liturgies

Thank you for the children from Class 3A who shared a wonderful liturgy yesterday on the theme of the Month of Mary. It is a very important part of our devotional worship as our school is dedicated to Mary. It was one of the most moving liturgies that I have had the privilege to share for a long while.

The final date for assemblies before the half term holiday is:

Thursday 9th May – Class 3E

There will be no assembly or liturgy on Thursday 16th May as the School Hall will be in use for national testing.

Unless you are told otherwise, assemblies begin at 9.30am.

Achievement Certificates

The achievement certificates this week are awarded to Katelyn in 3A, Chris in 3E, Ian in 4D, Joaquin in 4T, Tamit in 5B, Gabriel in 5C, Angel in 6G and Chidimma in 6P. The Head of School’s award goes to Samuel in 3A. The swimmer of the week is Osanna in 5C. The Kindness Award this week goes to Kamsiyochi in 5C.

Reminder – Early May Bank Holiday

Don’t forget that Monday is the first of the Spring Bank Holidays. School re-opens on Tuesday 7th May.

Have an enjoyable weekend and make the most of the extra day.

Yours faithfully,

Andrew McDonald

Head of School

Health Advice for parents

Coronavirus

The World Health Organisation now considers the covid pandemic to not be a global health emergency. For advice and support if you suspect someone has covid, please visit:

https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/covid-19/covid-19-symptoms-and-what-to-do/

When using a test, check that it is a recent one that is set up to detect new strains of the virus.

Group A Strep (streptococci)

Scarlet fever is usually a mild illness, but it is highly infectious. Look out for symptoms in your child, which include a sore throat, headache, and fever, along with a fine, pinkish or red body rash with a sandpapery feel. On darker skin the rash can be more difficult to detect visually but will have a sandpapery feel. Children with these symptoms should not attend school.
